Android have come a long way, in the 13 years of development, Google provided many high-quality wallpapers for their operating system. Here are almost all Android wallpapers. Android started in 2003, as a project to develop an operating system for digital cameras.
After a year, in 2004 project changed to develop an operating system for smartphones. Then in 2005 Google bought the Android Inc. and Android OS became the most popular operating system globally with 130 million+ users worldwide.
T-Mobile G1 with Android 1.0
T-Mobile G1 is the very first android phone, it was released on September 22, 2008. It came with mostly landscape wallpapers.
Nexus One with Android 2.1 Eclair
Nexus One launched a couple of years after that T-Mobile G1. It launched in 2010 and it came with Android 2.1 Eclair out of the box. Stock wallpapers still are mostly landscape and nature-themed.
Nexus S with Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Nexus S is a smartphone co-developed by Google and Samsung for release in 2010. It was the first phone to come with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. Its wallpapers were for the most part abstract patterns and nature themes.
Android 3.0 Honeycomb
On February 22, 2011, the first tablet-only update was released. The first device that ran this version was the Motorola Xoom tablet. This Android update included a new “holographic” user interface and new multitasking features.
Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
With its gorgeous Super AMOLED screen, Galaxy Nexus was the first phone to come out with an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Its wallpapers carried the same themes in earlier Nexus devices.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Google announced Android 4.1 at the Google I/O conference on June 27, 2012. Jelly Bean’s primary aim was to increase the performance and functionality of the user interface.
Android 4.4 KitKat
Android 4.4 KitKat launched alongside Google Nexus 5 in 2013.
Android 5.0 Lollipop
Codename Android L was released on June 25, 2014. It had a redesigned user interface built around a responsive design language referred to by Google as “Material Design“. Nexus 6 was the first phone to launch with Android Lollipop.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Android 6.0 Marshmallow was released for Nexus 5 and 6 in Google I/O on May 28, 2015.
Android 7.0 Nougat
Android N was first released as a developer preview on March 9, 2016. It allowed an Over-The-Air upgrade for supported devices. The developer preview came with the famous Pink Sky wallpaper that can be found on GSI and Engineering ROMs. Google’s own Pixel and LG’s V20, were the first phones to be launched with Android N preinstalled.
Android 8.0 Oreo
Android Oreo was first released as a developer preview, codenamed Android O, on March 21, 2017. Android Oreo first-come preinstalled on Google’s Pixel 2 series.
Android 9.0 Pie
Android Pie is the ninth major version of the Android operating system. It was first announced by Google on March 7, 2018. It introduced a new user interface for the quick settings menu and more interface changes across the whole operating system. Like the older versions, it was released firstly for Google’s Pixel phones.
Android 10
With Android 10, Google dropped the dessert-themed naming of their operating system. The stable version of Android 10 was released on September 3, 2019. It came with completely revamped full-screen gesture navigation with new app open/close animations. Pixel 4 launched with Android 10 out of the box.
Android 11
Android 11 internal codenamed Red Velvet Cake was announced by Google on February 19, 2020. It came with small improvements on Android 10.
Android 12
Announced by Google on February 18, 2021, alongside the Pixel 6 series. It can be considered as a major upgrade from older Android versions as a result of the complete overhaul of the user interface. The New UI is called by the name “Material You”. With this upgrade, Google replaced the now-famous Pink Sky wallpaper.
