Tesla has now released the new version of FSD and according to the latest information, it brings 12.4.1 version with the system version number being 2024.15.5. This version marks that Tesla has abandoned the steering wheel torque monitoring system.
Of course, this solution is only in its initial implementation, so there are still some limitations. Moreover, according to feedback from Tesla owners, the new camera monitoring system is very demanding, including detecting whether the driver’s eyes are open, in which direction the eyes are looking, and whether the driver is playing with a mobile phone.
In addition, when the in-car camera cannot determine whether the driver is paying attention, Tesla will still enable the steering wheel monitoring and reminder functions. For example, if there is glare on the camera, the driver wears sunglasses or a low-brimmed hat, or even driving at night (older models that do not support infrared), they may be warned. If there are multiple consecutive warnings, the assisted driving state will be exited (after accumulating 5 penalties, it will be forced to be suspended for one week. If the driving condition is good afterwards, the penalty record can be offset every 7 days).
