In the second quarter of 2023, the South Korean tech giant Samsung gained an interesting position In the mobile application processor (AP) market. Yes, you read that right, Samsung ranked fifth with a seven percent share in the global mobile AP market, according to market research firm Counterpoint Research on Sept. 12.
The company jumped from three percentage in just one quarter after falling to four per cent in the first quarter of last year. The result goes in terms of leading sales in devices such as Galaxy A14, M14, F14, and A54 released this year.
As reported by Omdia, the total sale of Galaxy A14 shipments touched 12.4 million units, ranking fifth overall, while A14 5G and A54 5G shipments hit 9 million and 8.8 million units, respectively.
The A14, M14, and F14 are powered by the Exynos 1330, while the A54 the Exynos 1380. Recently the company has launched the Galaxy S23 lineup powered by the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile AP. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, foldable phones released this year, are also powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
If you look at the complete report, the percentage of Samsung smartphones powered by the Exynos AP dropped to 28 percent last year from 48 percent in 2018.
The South Korean tech giant is expected to come back on track for Exynos. The Exynos 2200 is expected to power the Galaxy S23 FE which is expected to be arrived in the second half of 2023.
“For Samsung to expand its presence in the global mobile AP market, it is essential for the Exynos to be used in flagship smartphone models,” said an industry insider. “The key is whether Samsung’s chip design technology has improved enough to power flagship smartphones with high specifications.”
