Austin, Texas and the Philippines-based studio Bit Planet Games shared on Twitter the first real photo of the Sony PS VR2. Asked by a follower if it was an NDA violation, the developer replied, “If we posted this photo 6 months ago, you would be right.”
At this point, you may be wondering – when was it 6 months ago? At its CES 2022 keynote in January, Sony brought the official technical specifications of the PlayStation 5 VR for the first time and confirmed the arrival of its PlayStation VR2 Sense console.
At the time, Sony also announced the first PS VR2 game for the PS5: Call of Horizon Hills from Guerrilla and Firesprite. According to previous news, the headset will be released next year, and Sony has prepared at least 20 games for its release. PS VR2 will support 4K HDR, 110° wide viewing angle and center rendering.
In addition, the OLED display used in the new phone will provide a resolution of 2000×2040 per eye and a refresh rate of 90/120Hz. SIE also confirmed that PS VR2 will support Foveated rendering, which will essentially improve the quality and performance of VR games.
“Right now, (we) have significant funding to work with independent and other third-party developers to ensure a substantial amount of attractive VR content when PlayStation VR2 launches,” said SIE President Jim Ryan. The number of users of the headset grows, and this energy, effort and funding will continue to grow.”
