With a new post published on Reddit in response to users asking for clarification regarding the Early Access phase of the game, Blizzard Entertainment has confirmed that Overwatch 2 will replace the first chapter of the series in terms of live service support.
The Blizzard development team behind Overwatch 2 recently held an AMA session on Reddit. When a player asked what will become of Overwatch when the sequel debuts in Early Access on October 4, the studio revealed that there will be an actual handover between the two titles.
“We use the term Early Access to mean that this is just the beginning of a lot of new stuff coming to the game,” reads the post posted on Reddit. “We are releasing new heroes, maps and features, but there are even more coming every season, every 9 weeks.
We recently released a roadmap detailing some of this content, with a new hero arriving in the seasons. 1 and 2 and a new map in season 2. Additionally, the larger pieces of the game that have always been part of OW2’s vision will be released in the game as part of the live service, including the launch of the PvE campaign next year. OW2 will be released on October 4th, it will replace the current live service. ”
By” current live service “we obviously refer to the first Overwatch, which therefore will no longer receive the support and unreleased content that Blizzard has worked on over the years. Pending Early Access, interested players can sign up until June 28 for the Overwatch 2 Beta phase on PC, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
