Dropbox announced Tuesday that the Dropbox Shop, a platform that allows creators to sell digital content directly to customers, is now in a public beta. As part of the Open Beta, the Dropbox Shop also brings some experience improvements, such as an updated tipping feature. In addition, users can customize the storefront and web address (URL), and embed HTML code.
Dropbox Shop went into closed beta last year, allowing users to create product listings for digital content. You can add content directly from Dropbox, set custom image/audio/video previews, and list prices accordingly.
Creators can also accept gratuities if needed. Dropbox will then create a shareable, or embeddable link that can be pasted into a social media post, email, or web page. In addition, you can create your own e-commerce storefront, edit your profile, and customize your store web address (URL), and Dropbox has partnered with Stripe and PayPal to allow customers to pay with a variety of methods other than credit cards and Google Pay.
Even better, users can view and track sales data, and analyze customer information such as traffic sources and historical transactions. Dropbox Shop supports the uploading of multiple image/audio/video file formats, and multiple file types can be uploaded in each listing.
Content that is allowed to be sold through Dropbox covers educational courses and materials, digital art/graphic design, music/audio, writing/publishing, personal finance spreadsheets, game tutorials, fitness/wellness videos, film, photography, animation, Types of digital tools, etc.
It should be pointed out that Dropbox Shop is still in the early stages of product development, and therefore does not take a cut of transactions on the platform. However, this could soon change once the phase testing is completed.
Finally, the Dropbox Shop beta is now available to individual users of Dropbox Basic, Plus, and Professional subscription plans in the US.
