It is reported that when the child’s cry reaches 90 decibels, the Apple Watch’s ambient noise warning will be triggered. Apple Watch has a variety of health features, and one of the lesser-known features is ambient noise monitoring. Once set in the Noise app, the Apple Watch will warn if the wearer is at risk of louder noise than its recommended daily dose.
One parent received a “Loud Environment” notification on Apple Watch when near a crying child. The notice told them that exposure to sounds of 90 decibels or higher for 30 minutes a day could cause temporary hearing loss.
The Apple Health app describes 90 decibels as the equivalent of standing next to a moving motorcycle. Of course, parents don’t need any help from their wearables when it comes to judging whether a baby’s voice is too loud.
Apple warns that exposure to such volumes should be limited to four hours a week without hearing protection. At least for now, iCloud notifications aren’t compatible with babies.
Thanks to more technology like the Apple Watch, researchers are able to determine more about how modern people live and how society affects their health. An Apple Watch-powered study showed that more than 25 percent of participants were exposed to, on average, louder ambient noise than recommended by the World Health Organization.
