This year sees the big reboot of Wear OS, which should bring the new version of the operating system to many more smartwatches. But along the way, there are not only new features, but Google is also saying goodbye to a few days that are probably not used much. This includes the Google Slides remote control, which disappeared from the Play Store a few days ago.
Google wants to give smartwatches a new start with Wear OS 3, which may also open up new areas of use. The new YouTube Music tiles have only recently appeared and now a few users have to say goodbye to a feature that has certainly been very useful when actively used: the Google Slides remote control for Wear OS. It was a simple app that could be used to control an active presentation.
The app provided the ability to go to the next slide, go back to the last slide. It also has a progress bar and a timer that shows how long the current slide has been open. Anyone who often gives presentations in front of larger groups – which is likely to happen less often in the last two years – had good remote control on their wrist. But the app has not been updated for a long time and was discontinued at the beginning of January.
Compared to the mighty PowerPoint, Google Slides probably has only a few users who actually use it for online presentations. In combination with Google’s long Wear OS ignorance, the app is likely to have had only a few users. But who knows, maybe one day something like this will come back.
