Gosh! There was a lot to report about the Pixel range from Google. Some news has already come together for new updates. There’s also a new review of the Pixel 6 cameras and rumors about the Pixel 7.
The first week of the year was not entirely without fans and owners of the Pixel hardware. There were new updates, but also new disappointments. In addition, a new test of the latest models. The latter is DXOMARK’s famous camera test that has received so much attention and is equally controversial. Nevertheless, the ranking that is determined there makes a lot of sense.
Google has caught up with cameras
Google is almost making it to the top again with its new Pixel 6 smartphones. Not on the throne, but at least very close. The testers wrote that the switch to the larger camera sensor with 50 megapixels is a big step forward. The regular Pixel 6 is even the best smartphone in its price range (649 euros).
New updates are available, but not yet for all models
After we could live relaxed on Monday, there was the big January security update on Tuesday. But there’s more to it than that. There are some bug fixes involved. Also for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, but these two devices will only receive their update in late January. There was also an update for the Pixel 3 devices, but it is less than half a megabyte in size.
Google didn’t mention anything in the changelog, but with the January update, the usual volume control for connected Cast devices came back! Almost at the same time, Google completely removed the faulty December updates for the Pixel 6 devices from their own websites and servers. Which, to be honest, took way too long. A few days before I wrote a comment about what a huge disaster the December update was for me and others.
UWB can be switched off
A new switch in the system settings of the Pixel 6 Pro should only be of interest to very few people. You can now switch off the new UWB module there. Ultra-broadband is now being used for Nearby Share, but also for the Digital Car Key.
Pixel 7 could have a camera under the display
Meanwhile, Jonathan has taken on a rumor. Or rather, informed about a patent that has been filed by Google. The company in Mountain View is also thinking about using an under-display camera in the future.
