Netflix yesterday released the official trailer for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an animated film inspired by the stories written by Andrzej Sapkowski and made internationally famous by the video games of CD Projekt Red. The debut of the film is now imminent: it will be available on the streaming platform starting from 23 August. Judging by the trailer at least, it promises monster-killing action at will!
Unlike all the content produced so far in this universe, the film will not focus on Geralt of Rivia: here the protagonist will be Vesemir, Geralt’s teacher, mentor and father figure. The story takes place temporally before the live-action TV series, also for Netflix, in which Geralt is played by Henry Cavill; and comes with perfect timing, given that in the second season of The Witcher among the characters will debut Vesemir. Nightmare of the Wolf will not only provide background on the character but also information and details about the world in which the entire saga is set, including how they originate and where the magic and monsters that haunt it comes from.
Interestingly, the witchers carry two swords here – one of steel to fight against humans and natural creatures, and one of silver to face monsters and magical creatures. It is an iconic trait especially for those who have played video games, which has not been seen in the live-action series: the production explained that with real actors, managing two swords is much more complicated – they are heavy, cluttered and make it difficult. combat sequences. In the animated format, of course, the problem does not arise.
