Google’s latest Pixel Tablet users now have the opportunity to explore enhanced software flexibility with the addition of LineageOS support.
As of the latest update, users can access and install the custom ROM for their Google Pixel Tablet directly from the official LineageOS website. Dubbed “tangorpro” builds, these versions are based on LineageOS 20 and introduce various customization options and additional features, including a unique PIN unlock method that alters the order of numbers with each unlock.
Earlier this year, we discussed the merits of trying LineageOS when it became widely accessible based on Android 13.
While the compatibility of Pixel Tablet’s distinctive features with LineageOS remains uncertain, features such as the dock and “Hub Mode” currently rely on Google’s proprietary software, raising questions about their functionality within a custom ROM.
The true advantage for Pixel Tablet owners lies in the long-term benefits. LineageOS consistently extends software support for Android devices even after the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) discontinues its support. Considering that Google offers support for up to five years, the LineageOS support introduced today could potentially extend the Pixel Tablet’s lifespan with continued updates for several additional years.
