Google Discover, the personalized content feed known for offering tailored article suggestions, videos, and popular topics, has initiated testing of a new design feature focused on prominent search bar suggestions.
As part of its efforts to encourage user search activity, Google Discover is now showcasing a faux search bar above select recommended articles. This new design, currently being tested in the beta version of the Google Search app, includes relevant text within the search bar.
Upon tapping the suggested search term, users are directed to a Google Search page displaying results related to the phrase shown. For instance, an article preview about ongoing labor strikes in Hollywood is accompanied by a search suggestion for “Hollywood actors join writers on strike.” Similarly, a recommendation for “samsung tv deals” appears above a grid of four retail listings for televisions.
This approach bears similarities to the Full Coverage feature of Google News, enabling users to explore different perspectives on the same topic across various publications. By seamlessly transitioning to Google Search, users gain rapid access to the latest news and other pertinent information from the web.
Initial sightings of the search bar design were reported by our team in early June, and it appears to be progressively rolling out to a broader user base in recent days. Additionally, a subtle change in font weight for article headlines in Discover was introduced in a previous beta update.
