A bug in Google News is presently impeding the proper display of the latest stories from various websites, hindering users’ access to content from their preferred sources.
According to Google’s John Mueller and the Search Status Dashboard (via SearchEngineLand), an ongoing bug in Google News is causing “all sites” to experience incorrect indexing, resulting in the inability to display stories from trusted publishers as intended.
Google briefly provided an explanation for the issue:
“We are currently facing an indexing problem in Google News that is impacting all sites. Websites may notice a decline in traffic originating from Google News. We are actively investigating the root cause of this problem, and the next update will be provided within 24 hours.”
Although this problem has only surfaced on Google’s dashboard today, it appears to have been lingering for a couple of weeks, as highlighted by a digital strategist.
Naturally, this situation adversely affects websites and publishers by reducing the traffic they receive. Google News is a significant source of referral traffic for websites across the internet, making it particularly challenging for those affected.
Google has assured that it will provide an update on the progress made in resolving this issue within the next 24 hours. However, it remains unclear whether a solution will be implemented by that time. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further details as they become available.
