Pixel users report missing ripple effect following June Update

The latest Android update has raised concerns among Pixel phone users, as they have noticed the absence of a significant visual effect.

The recent Android 14 and Android 13 QPR3 (June 2023 update) appear to lack a particular effect or exhibit difficulty in recognizing it. Numerous Pixel users have voiced their complaints regarding a change in the ripple effect through Google’s issue tracker. This effect serves as a visual confirmation of menu selections, and its sudden disappearance has been disconcerting for many.

Clearly visible ripple effect:

Upon personal observation of the Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7a devices, it is evident that this animation is either missing or barely discernible. This can be verified by using the Compose Material Catalog app, where the ripple effect is absent on any button within the “Material Design 3” section on Google’s devices, while remaining visible on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Likewise, within Gmail, the effect is scarcely noticeable when selecting an email on the Google Pixel.

In recent days, several entries regarding this matter have been logged on the Issue Tracker. It is plausible that this issue is connected to Google’s ongoing efforts to expand the Material Design of the Android operating system, involving the introduction of additional color palettes. An inadvertent error may have occurred during this developmental phase.
