Google’s Pixel Camera Services has received an update to version 1.1, introducing significant enhancements to the Night Sight feature. This system component, initially introduced in March 2022, enables third-party applications to leverage Night Sight capabilities on the Pixel 6+ device. During the recent I/O 2023 session on “Building High-Quality Android Camera Experiences,” Snap, the popular multimedia messaging app, was highlighted as one of the applications benefiting from this integration.
Over the past few weeks, Google has been gradually rolling out the 1.1 update for Pixel Camera Services. Recently, an updated changelog was published on the Play Store, revealing the following new features available for third-party apps:
- Autofocus, manual focus, and zoom functionality are integrated into the NightSight extension.
- Compatibility with Android 14.
- Bug fixes and performance enhancements.
Furthermore, Google Camera 8.9, featuring the Palm Timer for the Pixel 6+ and Macro Focus Video for the 7 Pro, has been widely released following the announcement earlier this week. The new “Macro Focus” section can be accessed by sliding down to the settings menu, offering controls for enabling or disabling this feature. Notably, the Palm Timer feature does not include an option for deactivation.
With the latest update to Pixel Camera Services and the concurrent release of Google Camera 8.9, Google continues to prioritize user experience and expand the capabilities of its flagship Pixel devices, delivering enhanced photography functionalities to both native and third-party applications.
