According to recent leaks, new information has emerged regarding Google’s highly anticipated smartphones, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. This latest leak provides intriguing details about the display features on both devices, complementing previous speculations.
Notably, the Pixel 8 is expected to feature a smaller 6.17-inch display, a reduction from its predecessor’s size of 6.31 inches. Additionally, this compact device will finally incorporate a 120Hz refresh rate while maintaining the FHD+ resolution of 2400×1080.
Similarly, the Pixel 8 Pro will also see a reduction in size, albeit imperceptibly so. Its display will measure 6.7 inches, with the panel being merely one millimeter narrower. Moreover, both phones are set to undergo significant modifications to their screen corners, potentially resulting from the Pro model adopting a flat glass cover.
In an intriguing development, the Pixel 8 Pro will experience a resolution downgrade from its predecessors, with a shift from the 3120×1440 resolution of the Pixel 6 Pro and 7 Pro to 2992×1344. Consequently, the pixel density will decrease from 512 pixels per inch to 490 pixels per inch. Nevertheless, this trade-off is compensated by the Pro model’s improved refresh rate capabilities. The device is reportedly capable of multiple refresh rate modes, including 5Hz, 10Hz, 30Hz, and any value between 60Hz and 120Hz. On the other hand, the Pixel 8 will support refresh rate modes of 10Hz, 30Hz, 60Hz, and 120Hz.
One of the most notable enhancements pertains to the brightness levels of the displays. The Pixel 8 is expected to achieve a maximum brightness of 1,400 nits, while the Pixel 8 Pro will reach an impressive 1,600 nits. This represents a significant improvement from the Pixel 7 generation, which peaked at 1,000 nits under similar high dynamic range (HDR) conditions. It is important to note that these values are derived from code analysis rather than actual measurements. Google previously rated the Pixel 7 Pro with a peak brightness of 1,500 nits.
The Pixel 8 series is slated for release later this year, generating anticipation among tech enthusiasts and consumers alike.
