Google has recently cautioned its employees about the potential risks associated with utilizing AI chatbots, including its own tool, Bard. The tech behemoth has taken proactive measures to inform its staff about the importance of safeguarding business data when engaging with AI chatbot platforms.
The utilization of AI-driven chatbots has gained significant popularity among users, and even employees have turned to these tools to acquire information on various topics or resolve technical glitches. However, a major concern arises when employees inadvertently disclose confidential company data to these chatbots. It should be noted that data shared with a chatbot remains stored within its servers, subsequently enriching its database.
In early April, reports emerged regarding ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by OpenAI, leaking Samsung semiconductor information following the inadvertent sharing of source codes by company employees. Consequently, Samsung implemented precautionary measures to avert similar incidents in the future. Echoing this sentiment, Google has now advised its employees against inputting confidential materials into AI chatbots.
Furthermore, Google has requested engineers and programmers to abstain from utilizing code generated by AI chatbots. The company acknowledges the existence of limitations in its products, including Bard’s tendency to make unintended code suggestions.
Google’s updated privacy notice explicitly states, “Do not include confidential or sensitive information in your Bard conversations.”
While Bard is currently categorized as an “experimental” product within Google’s portfolio, the company aims to expand its availability to additional markets in the coming years. The future may witness Bard being accessible in 180 countries, supporting 40 languages.
Notably, European regulatory authorities have recently called upon Google to elucidate the potential privacy implications of Bard prior to an official launch on the continent. To address these concerns, Google engaged in discussions with the Data Protection Commission of Ireland.
As competition with Microsoft intensifies in the search market, Google finds itself increasingly vigilant. Leveraging initiatives from ChatGPT and OpenAI, Microsoft is transforming Bing into a formidable challenger for Google Search. This trajectory indicates a potential shift in the landscape of traditional search engines, with AI chatbots poised to replace and augment conventional search functionalities in the years ahead.
