Google app unveils code name “Eos” for Pixel Watch 2, suggesting a familiar design

Google is rumored to be launching its second-generation Pixel-branded Wear OS smartwatch this autumn, featuring notable internal upgrades. An update to the Google app has now revealed the code name “Eos” for the Pixel Watch 2, indicating that the design may not undergo significant changes from last year’s model.

APK Insight, a platform that decompiles application files, provides insights into possible future features based on the code found within. It is important to note that these features may or may not be shipped by Google, and our interpretation may be imperfect. However, we strive to showcase those closer to completion to offer a glimpse of how they might appear if they are released.

Previously, 9to5Google reported exclusively that Google was preparing to launch a second-generation Pixel Watch, which would coincide with the release of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Subsequently, Evan Blass, a reliable leaker, revealed that the smartwatch would unsurprisingly be called the “Pixel Watch 2.”

The recent beta version update (version 14.24) of the Google Search app introduced new assets related to the upcoming smartwatch. This update sheds light on the Pixel Watch 2 being developed under the code name “Eos.” Our team has also discovered another code name, “Aurora,” which we believe refers to the same device. These code names draw inspiration from mythology, as both “Eos” (Greek) and “Aurora” (Roman) are goddesses associated with the dawn.

We speculate that the key distinction between “Eos” and “Aurora” could be the inclusion of cellular connectivity. This pattern aligns with the two distinct models of the first Pixel Watch, known as “r11” and “r11btwifi,” with “r11” being a shortened form of “Rohan.”

The initial appearances of the Pixel Watch 2 within the update primarily revolve around the setup of Google Assistant and Voice Match on the device. Notably, the same text and animations used for last year’s model are replicated for the Pixel Watch 2.

There are two potential explanations for this similarity. It is plausible that Google has not yet updated these assets to reflect the newer hardware. Alternatively, although less likely, the Pixel Watch 2 may bear enough resemblance to its predecessor that the assets can be reused without issues.

Currently, there is limited information available regarding the visual design of the Pixel Watch 2, as leaked details have mainly focused on internal specifications. However, it is highly probable that Google will maintain a familiar design, as it would intend to leverage the premium watch bands that accompanied the first-generation model.
