The Messages app on iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads, has been supporting stickers for quite some time. However, with the release of iOS 17, Apple has introduced significant enhancements to the sticker experience, elevating their importance within the app.
Now, all emojis are classified as stickers and can be utilized in the Messages app just like any other stickers. This means that emojis are now listed alongside Memoji stickers and sticker packs downloaded from the App Store, offering a more cohesive and unified sticker experience.
Moreover, iOS 17 introduces a powerful feature that allows users to create their own stickers by removing the subject from the background in images. This functionality was initially introduced in iOS 16 and has now been seamlessly integrated into the sticker creation process.
To create your own sticker, simply long-press on the subject of an image in the Photos app, regardless of whether it’s from your photo library, Safari, or any other location. This action will highlight the subject and bring up an interface with various options.
One of the available options is “Add Sticker.” Selecting this option transfers the chosen subject into the sticker interface. From there, you can customize the sticker by adding effects or even deleting it if needed. The effects range from a white sticker outline to a “puffy” sticker effect, a glittery effect, and more. If the subject is taken from a Live Photo, it can also be animated, adding an extra touch of life to your stickers.
Once you have created your stickers, they can be easily accessed through the sticker interface in the Messages app. To access this interface, simply tap on the “+” button and then select “Stickers.” You can insert stickers as individual images or integrate them into your messages and photos, just as stickers have functioned since their initial introduction.
With the revamped sticker experience in iOS 17, Apple is providing users with a more intuitive and versatile way to express themselves through animated stickers. Whether you choose to create your own unique stickers or explore the vast array of options available in the App Store, the new sticker features in iOS 17 are bound to add an extra layer of creativity to your messaging experience.
