1st-gen Chromecast update stops officially by Google

For the 1st-gen Chromecast, Google recently declared the update and this update could be the last update for this Chromecast. It means this Chromecast device will not get any security and software updates in the future.

Chromecast 1st-gen was introduced almost 10 years ago and users use this device service for $35. Now, Google suggests that this device will not receive a further update so it may be possible that the device’s performance will reduce.

In three years, an update came for this device in November 2022 which bring bug fixes and improvements. On support pages, they release notes on the Chromecast firmware version which get the last update on April 27, 2023:

Support for Chromecast (1st gen) has ended, which means these devices no longer receive software or security updates, and Google does not provide technical support for them. Users may notice a degradation in performance.

The 1st-gen Chromecast design with a micro USB port on the other for power with an adapter and a key with an HDMI port on the right end. On the top of this device Chrome and the browser’s logo are printed. They made this device with 512MB of RAM and 2GB of storage which users can buy easily.

The company’s second-generation model for the Chromecast after this 1st-gen Chromecast launched. In 2016, they bring the Ultra model with Chromecast Audio, these devices were declared at the inaugural Made by Google event. Latter in 2018, the company brought its 3rd gen Chromecast which is a Cast-powered streaming device by Google.
