The Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are receiving a new update from Samsung that enables the smartwatches automatically check your skin temperature to track and predict when your period will start. This new update, which was first made public in February, is now available for all Galaxy Watch 5 models in eligible nations, including the US, South Korea, and “30 European markets.”
The new tracking is the result of a partnership between Samsung and Natural Cycles, an app that uses your skin temperature to accurately determine your cycle stage.
However, taking a temperature reading as soon as you awake is typically necessary to obtain an accurate assessment.
This can happen automatically thanks to the infrared temperature sensor on the Galaxy Watch 5, which can already track your sleep. Utilizing these details, combined with your schedule-based cycle following sections, the Galaxy Watch 5 will want to anticipate ovulation and the start of your next period.
More importantly, Samsung claims that this data is only stored on your device and is protected by encryption. Samsung and Natural Cycles will also provide additional advice on how to avoid unwanted effects like pelvic pain based on your self-reported symptoms in your daily log, such as “scheduling a day to relax to address fatigue or exercising gently to relieve premenstrual pelvic pain.”
You will need to add some manually entered calendar entries for your most recent cycle to use the improved skin temperature-based cycle tracking on the Galaxy Watch 5. After that has been completed, look for and enable a brand-new setting titled “Predict period with skin temperature.”
Lastly, after an update to the Samsung Health app (version 6.22), which the company is now “progressively” distributing to eligible devices, this selection will only be available.
