Google Drive has added search chips that enable you to filter by file type, owner, and last modified date anywhere in the web app as part of the Material You redesign.
Three filters will appear shortly after the file path:
- File type: Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, Forms, Photos & images, PDFs, Videos, Shortcuts, Folders, Sites, Audio, Drawings, Archives (.zip)
- People
- Last modified
This feature used to be available in the Google Drive search feature, but it is now available “throughout Drive.” Google anticipates that “you narrow down and find relevant files faster in any view” as a result of this.
With the Material You website redesign, Google wants to “help you complete your most common tasks more quickly.” In list view, this feature joins the one that lets you quickly share, download, rename, and save files by hovering over them. This only appears on wide screens, according to our experience. Additionally, a toolbar with multiple selections enables bulk actions.
These Google Drive search filters will be fully available over the next few weeks for available to users with personal Google Accounts, as well as existing G Suite Basic and Business customers and all Google Workspace customers.
