Voice is sold as an “add-on” to the suite and is managed by that team, even though it is not a Google Workspace app. A Material You redesign has been added to Google Voice for Android.
A pill-shaped “Search Google Voice” field can be found at the top of the screen, and the modernized navigation drawer features rounded top and bottom corners and a wider panel.
The app makes use of Dynamic Color, which replaces the previous dull gray. The status bar and the app bar do not merge when you are viewing a conversation.
Additionally, Material You is applied to the widgets on the home screen, giving them modernized shapes and a background in Dynamic Color.
This Voice update comes shortly after Google Tasks was updated in February. Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet, and Chat have all been updated as Android Workspace apps. Jamboard is the only Workspace-adjacent app that has not been updated recently. Material You is accessible online for Google Drive, Docs/Sheets/Slides, and Gmail.
The Material You redesign is now available in Google Voice for Android version 2023.03.20.518941070. It has not yet been widely available through the Play Store.
