Apple has officially confirmed that Apple Pay will launch in South Korea on February 8. Some sources have learned that the full service will begin with locations equipped with the NFC (Near Field Communication) terminals required for Apple Pay payments.
Apple announced via an e-mail notice the same day, “We plan to launch Apple Pay in Korea.” Now South Korean users can also enjoy Apple Pay on their iPhones. Samsung has monopolized the payment service using mobile phone terminals for some time but now the competition has been opened by Apple.
It is not yet revealed what time Apple Pay will be brought into service. But some industry believes it is likely to start as early as next month. Recently the Financial Services Commission issued a clarification on the 3rd that Apple Pay’s domestic service is possible. “Details will be announced at a later date,” Apple said.
