Waze now supports the Android Auto “Coolwalk” dashboard, making Google’s redesign of Android Auto fully compatible with one of Google’s mapping applications.
The mapping service has added support for the Android Auto dashboard. It is now available alongside the most recent beta version of Waze. To everyone until it reaches the Waze stable update channel, probably in the coming weeks.
Waze is compatible with Android Auto’s Coolwalk dashboard:
Waze was not supported when the “Coolwalk” redesign of the Android Auto dashboard first launched in beta. The mapping app could still be used by users, but they wouldn’t see support for the new paned interface on Android Auto. It would have allowed them to see a mapping app alongside other information like music apps. Instead, a pop-up message announcing that Waze support was coming “soon” began to appear a few weeks into the beta.
It’s not clear when this support will be included in the Waze app’s stable version, but at this point, it doesn’t matter.
Google has not yet provided support for “Coolwalk” to most users as of the end of January. As per a recent survey, 80-90 percent of users still do not have access to the dashboard redesign.
Waze has long been an essential Android Auto app. The company might have been waiting for this update to become available before turning on the switch.
