Home Assistant: A voice alternative to Google Assistant is being developed by
The Assistant has received less and less attention from Google over the past year. Abner Li recently explained that the company cut back on several Assistant projects, including Snapshot, Driving Mode, and Memory.
In the meantime, a report stated that despite having over 70 million users, roughly 10 million more than Google Assistant. Which is also more than Amazon Alexa, and its hardware loses upwards of $10 billion annually. In light of this, some people have pondered the possibility of voice control for smart home devices in the future.
For those who are unfamiliar, Home Assistant is a free tool that allows you to control smart home devices on your local network rather than through cloud services. It can be used with a wide range of devices and also enables extensive automation.
ArsTechnica says that the team behind Home Assistant wants to tackle the challenge of a voice assistant now. The open-source local voice assistant Rhasspy, which is currently in development, is the basis for the project.
To work on the project, the project’s lead developer has moved to Home Assistant full-time. Raspy currently supports 16 languages. It is anticipated that it will eventually support all 62 languages that Home Assistant currently does. The objective of this project is to concentrate solely on the smart home when it is completed.
Lastly, when it comes to web searches, calls, and other similar features, this will not compete with Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant.
