The Tesla driver informed the authorities that the Tesla Full Self-Driving’s accidental braking was to blame. The accident report says that Tesla changed lanes and slowed down to stop the accident.
Tesla has this information, even though the California Highway Patrol stated that it could not confirm whether Full Self-Driving was operating at the time of the collision.
Lastly, the Model S was traveling at 55 mph when it crashed and pulled into the left lane before abruptly braking and slowing to 20 mph. This set off a series of events that led to an eight-car collision.
