The Pixel phones and Pixel Buds Pro won’t come with spatial audio until January, Google explained, how it will function, and which Android apps will be supported. Spatial Audio is intended to provide an “immersive effect” in movies on Pixel phones.

It will work on the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 7, and 7 Pro, but it’s not clear if the January update is needed or if the QPR1 December patch already has everything in place. However, unlike during the beta period, the aforementioned menu does not yet appear after updating:
- Open your phone’s Settings app.
- Tap Sound & vibration > Spatial Audio.
- Turn on Spatial Audio.
According to Google, “movies from Netflix, YouTube, Google TV, and HBOMax that have audio tracks of 5.1 or higher can be used with Spatial Audio on your Pixel phone.” You must wear earbuds or headphones.
Pixel Buds Pro owners, on the other hand, can turn on “head-tracked spatial audio.” New firmware is probably required for this:
- Open your phone’s Settings app.
- Tap Connected devices > Pixel Buds Pro > Settings > Head tracking.
- Turn on Head tracking.
On the other hand, Google has the following tips:
- Use content marked as Dolby audio, 5.1, or Dolby Atmos.
- Keep your phone steady or place it on a stable surface or stand.
Lastly, when it will release it increases both devices’ user experience like listening to music, watching videos, and more.
