Kernel sources of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 now available to developer

Android is developed based on the Linux kernel, which explains that OEMs are made to offer the source code at the request of any Linux kernel binaries distributed to devices that intend to sell. Some companies take more time to publish their changes in the market as compared to others. Now, the last month’s release, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 kernel sources are available to the developers.

The company publishes the kernel sources of both devices on its Open-Source website. If you want to download the zip file with the sources, head on over to Samsung Open-Source Release Center, and search for SM-F936 for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and SM-F721 for the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The latest Samsung foldable has the same software as the software version AVGA. In the US none of the Samsung Galaxy phones sold without a bootloader unlocked. As compared to the global models, these devices come entirely locked down. While the GPLv2 license requires that vendors release their kernel sources, the lack of an unlockable bootloader makes it hard to kickstart the aftermarket development scene.

These kernel sources provide a way for users that see the code and able to unlock the bootloader. Changing the sources often allows the modding community to come up with custom kernels that add new capabilities that are not offered in the stock configuration. Kernel source of foldable help to the developer uses the custom ROMs for the device.

If any developer begins to build the device duo, move to Samsung’s Open-Source Release Center.
