One UI 4.1.1 enhances Samsung folding

It may have passed on the sly, but together with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, we have witnessed the launch of the new One UI 4.1.1. Even if the One UI 5.0 is the next major update of reference, Samsung has created an intermediate version that aims to introduce Android 12L on board it’s folding. A rather welcome update, which does not upset the general experience but which adds particularly useful features when it comes to smartphones with this type of form factor.

Announced by Google at the end of 2021, Android 12L is in effect a minor update but not least, given that its purpose is to be an optimized version for tablets and folding screens. The same is therefore true for One UI 4.1.1, developed by Google precisely to improve the software experience of its leaflets. This is realized with the addition of the Taskbar, a feature designed to expand the multitasking capabilities of foldable.

In addition to the navigation keys and to call up the drawer, when an app is opened an app bar appears in the central part at the bottom, in a PC style. The user can thus not only quickly recall the most used apps but also drag them on the screen to open them in split-screen mode. But the most convenient part is represented by the possibility of saving combinations of apps to be used at the same time: in this way, just click on the relative shortcut to start them directly in split-screen. This bar was already present on the Z Fold 3 in the form of an Edge Panel, but its new horizontal positioning is more comfortable in interaction.

Which Samsung models will receive One UI 4.1.1

For the moment, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the first and only one to have One UI 4.1.1 and Android 12L. The company has confirmed that the update will be released on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and it is rumored that it should also arrive on the Galaxy Z Fold 2 (while the doubt remains for the first Galaxy Fold)..
