Extensions in web browsers bring many new features, so managing extensions is also very important. Until now, the Firefox browser showed extensions in the overflow menu icon on the toolbar, Mozilla will now replace it with the new unified extensions panel.
According to Tchdows, the Firefox browser will get a unified extension management button on the toolbar, and when you click the puzzle button, all extensions will appear. Each extension with a gear icon displays a context menu with options to manage, report, and delete the extension. The Unity Extensions context menu contains the Manage Extensions option to access the Add-ons Manager.
As part of the work on Manifest version 3, Mozilla is preparing to replace the overflow menu with a unified extension panel. You’ll find a new extension UI similar to Chrome’s and the new Microsoft Edge extension menu toolbar button and more.
The new extension toolbar menu button is being tested in Firefox 105 (pre-release). Here’s how to enable and test:
- Open Firefox browser
- visit about:config
- Search for unified, and under the displayed results, toggle the “extensions.unifiedExtensions.enabled” preset to “true” to enable it.
- Restart the Firefox browser.
When the user clicks the puzzle icon, a context menu is accessible, providing options for managing, reporting, and deleting extensions. As of now, there is no option to remove and unpin extensions from the toolbar. These may appear in future releases.
