Android 13 will be here in a few days or a few weeks. The latest version of the smartphone operating system indicates its immediate start. Google itself has already announced that Android 13 is “just a few weeks away”. And it’s slowly becoming more concrete that Android 13 won’t be long in the coming. This is revealed by the latest postings by the Android developers and also the new Google system updates.
Game Dashboard was officially released with Android 13
If the new Android 13 weren’t just around the corner, there probably wouldn’t have been the Game Dashboard announcement yet. The feature, previously exclusive to Pixel phones, will be available on “select devices” from other Android OEMs starting with Android 13.
Google provides new gesture features in the latest beta
The people at Google are expecting the app developers to implement the “predictive back gestures” these days. With this, Google makes it possible for the user to visually see what the back gesture will do. So either jump back in the app or switch to the start screen.
Although the predictive back gesture is not visible to users in Android 13, starting with Beta 4 we are making an early version of the UI available as a developer option for testing. We are planning to make the UI available to users in the future Android release and we want all the apps to be ready.
These are the last things to be clarified with Android 13. Nevertheless, the Pixel 6a should still be included in the beta program at the start of the new week, albeit very late. It almost sounds like Android 13 will first appear as source code again, then a little later as a system update for Google Pixel. The latest Android 13 beta 4 is currently running.
This is new in Android 13
The new Android version is less comprehensive than its predecessor. Instead, Google has made an effort to improve and expand a few existing features. For example, there are many more color palettes for Material You’s dynamic colors. But things like the media player in the Quick Settings will also be improved.
Google limits external apps’ access to files and media, expands data protection/privacy functions, no longer allows apps to automatically deliver notifications, better controls the clipboard, allows other languages on a per-app basis and improves multitasking.
Android 13 is also the launch of Google Wallet, bringing Game Dashboard to non-Google Pixel devices.
