Captured the attention of the community with the previews of the new lightning-fast start of the Xbox Series X / S, Eden Marie of the Xbox Team confirms the start of the tests on another function arriving with the next update of the Microsoft consoles, or the badge for the Non-Bootable Games.
As Chief Engineer of the Xbox team, Eden Marie explains that the new badge system on non-bootable games will integrate with the badges already displayed on the Xbox One and Series X / S dashboard, through special icons that will indicate, in fact, the ‘inability to play one or more video games installed on the internal hard disk of your console or on secondary memory.
Please note that the disc cache has only been tracking for a year or so and does not survive a factory reset, so you may need to relaunch from disc before you start seeing the missing disc badge for that game.

The unbootable games icon will appear on the main image of titles that can no longer be played, such as retail games with disc removed from the console tray, titles that have left the Xbox Game Pass catalog, or games downloaded through an account other than the main one and belonging to the same family unit (such as those of visiting friends who log in to allow the download of the titles present in their digital library).
Xbox Alpha & Alpha Skip Ahead Insiders: today we’re starting testing of new badges that will tell you if a game won’t launch because a disc isn’t inserted or you don’t have a license for other reasons (e.g. a game left Game Pass, not signed in). The new Non-Bootable Games badge is already available to beta testers of the Xbox Insider program and, presumably, will be soon with the launch of the official Xbox Series X / S system software update. To those who follow us, we remind you that the next update of the dashboard of the green cross consoles it will be possible to access the voice chat of Discord on Xbox Series X / S and One.
