Elon Musk recently announced the use of Formula 1 pit technology during repairs on Tesla vehicles, enabling “same-hour service” (simultaneous service). “Excited to work with Tesla Service for as many simultaneous services as possible! Tesla will be deploying more Formula 1 pit tech,” Musk tweeted.
In fact, this is not the first time Tesla has announced such an effort. In 2015, Tesla hired former Red Bull team chief mechanic Kenny Handkammer, a 25-year veteran of global service innovation director, to lead the new service project.

One of the first plans he implemented was F1-inspired “fast lanes” at service centres to reduce wait times. Handkammer left Tesla in 2017 and is now responsible for global technology services and operations for Lucid Motors.
Today’s new announcement comes after Tesla announced a renewed focus on services over the past few months. Last month, we reported on Musk’s announcement that Tesla is launching a service in North America, and how Telsa plans to make most appointments for same-day repairs.
As we noted, this is much needed because Tesla’s customer fleet is growing much faster than its service infrastructure. Musk, however, did not elaborate on how Tesla plans to achieve this.
