Google Calendar is a very practical tool for managing appointments and meetings of all kinds, without which many people (or alternatives) would probably have problems organizing them. But in the past, Google Calendar has repeatedly attracted negative attention as a source of spam, which is sent en masse in the form of invitations. Now there is one more step to prevent this.
With Google calendar, you can only create and manage your own appointments, but of course, you can share them with other users or invite them to do so. This worked well for a long time, but at some point, spammers discovered this function for themselves. Because every invitation goes out by e-mail, is displayed in the recipient’s calendar and can contain a freely selectable text (which then contained the spam). At least that’s how it used to be.
Google reacted after several waves of spam and integrated some protective measures that are now being expanded to include another important step that many would have wished for from the start: you can specify that only invitations from people you know are accepted.
Knows, in this case, means that they are in your address book that has been interacted with in the past or that the person is within the same organization in the workspace version. As usual, this innovation will be rolled out in stages and will reach all users over the next 15 days.
