Digital Foundry, a newspaper dedicated to the technical analysis of the gaming world, has published a new video dedicated to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Origins, in which they analyze the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S versions. Let’s see what the final verdict is.
Digital Foundry explains that both Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Origins have received patches that unlock 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S: this means that the frame rate has doubled from the original. According to the newspaper, these two games are still of a high standard and are stable at 60 FPS, with some limitations.
First of all, real-time footage drops a frame with every change of camera – it’s a voluntary choice by developers to create a buffer for the TAA, but according to Digital Foundry it’s not perfectly executed. The opening filmed sequence travels between 50 and 55 FPS. Pre-rendered movies, on the other hand, are at 30 FPS, with some frame pacing issues. In Origins, the physics of clothes and water is at 30 FPS.
Xbox Series X is the console that drops the most frames during the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Origins cutscenes, among the various consoles. The games are more responsive though and this helps as there is no motion blur.
The resolution hasn’t changed: Series X (which is based on Xbox One X) offers between 1440p and 2160p (usually 1728p), while Series S (which is based on Xbox One S) offers between 792p and 1080p (usually 900p ). PS5 (which is based on PS4 Pro) offers a resolution between 1152p and 1620p (usually 1440p).
Overall, Digital Foundry believes the 60 FPS patches improve Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Origins on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S – for testing, it’s a good time to catch up on these games.
