Apple TV HD Plus with the original Siri Remote to its list of “obsolete products.” According to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, the product was marked “obsolete” on June 30, but the list was only made public recently.
When the Apple TV HD was first released in 2015, Apple brought the first-generation Siri Remote to it. Apple has since introduced a new device and put a white ring around the new remote’s menu button to make it more visible. Now, Apple may have decided that the design without the ring decoration is outdated, so it is urging users to upgrade.
There are currently two companion remotes in Apple TV HD with a white ring (the first-generation Siri Remote or the second-generation Siri Remote with touch), so they are not “outdated”. Apple is still selling the Apple TV HD (fourth-generation Apple TV) at $149, and the device hasn’t had any hardware upgrades in seven years, aside from the Siri Remote.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the new Apple TV is planned to be released later in 2022 and may be equipped with an A14 chip and increased 4GB of memory.
