Twitter regains access after a major 40-minute outage

Twitter experienced a roughly 40-minute outage this morning, a major outage for the social network. Around 8:05 AM ET, the service started to have issues, with many users reporting “server overloaded” error messages and even “this page is down” errors. The issues affected Twitter pages, mobile phones, and even the company’s TweetDeck app.

Downdetector has seen thousands of reports of Twitter issues, but Twitter’s own status page claims “all systems are up and running.” While the main Twitter.com domain was loaded, many users were unable to log into the service or access any tweets. Twitter then began to return to normal at around 8:40 AM ET, with many people able to tweet and access the service again.

It’s yet another major outage for Twitter since the social network suffered a series of problems in February. In February, Twitter went down twice in a week, leaving users in parts of the U.S. unable to access the service due to “a technical error that prevented the timeline from loading and tweets from being published.”

These latest Twitter service issues come days after the social network filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk, the world’s richest man. Musk is trying to back out of a $44 billion takeover deal he claims Twitter failed to meet information requests about bots and spam activity on the platform.
