Children and teens have spent more time watching videos on TikTok than on YouTube. In fact, this situation has started in June 2020. The latest data shows that in 2022, the global 4-18-year-old group watches video minutes per day, TikTok (86 minutes) has surpassed YouTube (75 minutes).
Parental control software provider Qustodio is conducting an in-depth survey of 400,000 customer households based on actual app and website usage, not estimates. It should also be noted that these data are average data.
This means that children and teens are not watching TikTok or YouTube continuously throughout the day, and sometimes some children prefer to watch videos through TikTok for a period of time, and sometimes they prefer YouTube.
YouTube was the most popular video app for kids and teens in 2019, with an average of 48 minutes, compared with 38 minutes for TikTok, according to company statistics. But that started to change in June 2020, when TikTok (75 minutes) overtook YouTube (64 minutes) for the first time. The gap between the two sides widens further in 2021, with 91 minutes of video viewing on TikTok and 56 minutes on YouTube.
