France, Monaco and New Zealand now all have updated terrain and road details, as new map data from Apple Maps reaches 16 unique locations, according to AppleInsider. New to Apple Maps are better area highlighting, redesigned name labels, updated terrain information, improved visual clutter, and the addition of 3D models for locations in the three countries.
The most noticeable changes are in metropolitan areas. In the case of Paris, France, the business in its presentations has been updated and reorganized, with locations such as the Eiffel Tower now having a 3D model in Flyover.
The new information, covering 70.4 million people in three countries, is the culmination of 39 days of public testing, said map enthusiast Justin Oberine, who has been tracking the evolution of the data Apple collects for Apple Maps.
Oberine noted that the map data collected by Apple now covers 19 percent of the Earth’s land area and nearly 10 percent of the world’s population.
Apple Maps has been continuously updated with new map information as part of a global initiative that began in 2018. Earlier in April 2022, the German and Singapore data were similarly overhauled, with better detail in labeling, highlighting and landmark modeling. On June, 11 more countries received better information and launched multi-stop routes for the first time.
