Polestar will launch its new Polestar 3 electric SUV in October. Next year it will be the turn of the Polestar 4 Coupé SUV and in 2024, instead, the Polestar 5 electric GT will debut, the prototype of which made its appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2022. Apparently, however, the automaker appears to be thinking about launching an additional battery-powered car. Indeed, CEO Thomas Ingenlath plans to make a series version of the Polestar O2 concept car that was unveiled in early March.
We are talking about an electric roadster that includes all the latest technologies that the brand has developed. However, the work to be done is not easy, as the CEO pointed out.
My ambition is to make it a production car, but it’s not that easy. You have to respect the complexity of the project and understand in which direction we want to go with O2. When painting a picture it is always good to let it rest, then look at it after a couple of months and see again if it is a good picture. We have to do this with the O2.
The concept car got a great reception at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed where it was brought to show to the press and attendees and this could bode well for the future. After all, the Polestar 5 derives from the Polestar Precept concept car. The idea of transforming it into a production model came thanks to the approval of the public.
Mechanically speaking, it shouldn’t be difficult for the manufacturer to make a production version of the O2. The base, in fact, should be the same as the Polestar 5. In this regard, the manufacturer has already made it known that its future electric GT will be able to count on a powertrain with a double engine of 884 hp (650 kW). Therefore, the eventual roadster could count on very interesting performances.
However, nothing has yet been defined with certainty. The idea of making the Polestar O2 a production model is there. If the manufacturer really takes this path, we will surely know more over the next few months.
