Street Fighter 6 will include, among others, a novelty for the series: the “modern” controls, or a simplified version of the combat controls. While they are obviously optional, many have wondered whether the fact that the game adapts to much simpler inputs would compromise its balance. According to the developers, however, this will not be the case.
Speaking recently with Game Informer, Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama assured that the game’s modern controls “are not an easy mode” and will not affect the game’s balance. In fact, according to Nakayama, the modern control scheme will be a very viable option even in competitive play for players.
“If someone wants to play the modern control scheme in a competitive environment, like a tournament, they have to,” he said. “It’s simply a different path for players who want it.”
Clearly, the introduction of simplified controls is meant to reach out to those players who typically can’t play fighting games. Street Fighter 6 will be released in 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X / S, PS4 and PC.
