AirPods Pro 2 may not offer fitness tracking

Apple’s second-generation AirPods Pro won’t include any fitness-tracking features, and the next version is more likely to focus on delivering audio-related tech enhancements rather than health-related features, according to a report.

Rumors surrounding the AirPods Pro 2 occasionally involve Apple adding some form of fitness tracking to personal audio devices. According to previous rumors, premium earphones may get elements of body temperature and heart rate monitoring.

It’s now thought that the fitness feature won’t necessarily arrive in the 2022 update. In Bloomberg’s Power On newsletter on Sunday, Mark Gurman wrote that the 2022 AirPods Pro update is “unlikely to get heart rate monitoring.” One model is sure to launch later in 2022, and Gurman speculates that battery wear on the original model could prompt users to upgrade.

Discussing rumors about the ability to monitor the wearer’s heart rate or body temperature, Gurman was told that “neither of those features will be available in the 2022 update.” While unlikely to surface, Gurman added that the two enhancements “have been discussed internally at the company and could one day come.”

Other rumors about the AirPods Pro 2 suggest that new features could include a microphone in the charging case, hearing aid functionality, and a case speaker that works with the Find My network to make a sound.
