The UBports team has just released Ubuntu Touch OTA-23, which although still based on Ubuntu 16.04, at least adds support for FM radio. As an open-source mobile operating system, the maintainers who took over from Canonical’s official continuation of the project are still working on migrating to newer Long Term Support (LTS) releases. But the challenges will continue for quite some time due to various changes and manpower shortages.
Specifically, UBports brings initial support for the FM radio function to smartphones such as BQ E4.5 / E5 and Xiaomi Mi Note 7 Pro. But with the introduction of Ubuntu Touch OTA-23, it is working hard to move from “proof of concept” to the “production-ready” stage.
In addition, the new version improves the Messages application, brings hardware video decoding support to the media player, enables better wireless display, and is complemented by various other improvements and bug fixes.
