Driveteslacanada found that Tesla’s Model Y performance version built at the Berlin Gigafactory has been delayed several times because of what appears to be a problem with its electric SUV drive unit.
There’s been feedback from users that their new cars that were due to be delivered today and next week have been cancelled and delayed indefinitely. There have been previous responses saying that the issue appears to be fixable via OTA, but that doesn’t appear to be the case now.
A Tesla employee said the problem was related to the voltage converter on the drive unit. The issue reportedly involves a replacement part that is not currently available. There are also media reports that some Model Y Performances that have been delivered are also affected, but it has not been confirmed.
Tesla delivered nearly 2,000 Tesla Model Ys in Norway this month after sluggish sales in the previous two months. A Model Y he (User) had just picked up for three weeks also encountered the same problem, at least the car cannot be driven for now. Tesla service advisers said they were waiting on the parts needed for the repairs and hoped to have them by Wednesday, but owners expressed skepticism that the parts would arrive on time.
Of course, Tesla has yet to issue an official statement or recall on this issue.
