Fast Pair is the name of a feature designed by the Google team to allow users to quickly connect Bluetooth headphones to Android smartphones, something that will soon be available for Chrome OS devices as well.
But it seems that in the projects of the Mountain View giant there is the introduction of support for the Fast Pair functionality also in Wear OS, at least this is what emerges from the Google System Updates changelog of June 2022.
Fast Pair is a welcome addition coming to Wear OS
Among the news reported by the Google developer team, in fact, there is also the following relating to devices based on Wear OS:
- Fast Pair on Wear OS allows previously paired headphones to be discovered and connected to wearables
- The functionality in question, as explained by Google itself, will allow users to detect and connect headphones previously paired to wearable devices.
- Also in the changelog we read that this function is “available through Google Play Services v22.24 updated on 06/24/2022” .
Certainly, this is not a revolutionary feature but it is undeniable that it could prove to be very convenient in the experience of everyday use, especially when you consider how “boring” it can be to move between the settings on the small screen of a wearable device ( which will no longer be necessary to proceed with the pairing of previously used headphones).
According to what is learned, at the moment this new feature has not been made available to all users (but it is likely that in a few days the situation will change) and it is not even clear which interface the Google developer team has decided to use.
It cannot be excluded that the arrival of the Fast Pair functionality on Wear OS is designed for Google Pixel Watch: in the page dedicated to it on the Google Store, in fact, we read that with Fast Pair it is possible to connect earphones, smartwatches and smartphones together in a fast and easy way while Google Pixel Buds Pro also makes it easy to automatically switch audio between watches, phones and laptops.
