Existing developers found that Apple’s iOS 16 code level mentioned the Apple TV’s Siri remote, which seems to be a new, unreleased new product. Contributor @Aaronp613 of AppleDB, Apple’s online database of software and devices, discovered that the strings “SiriRemote4” and “WirelessRemoteFirmware” were included in the first two beta versions of iOS 16. That doesn’t match any existing Siri remote, he said.
The original Siri Remote is said to be named “SiriRemote,” while a revised version of the remote with a white circle around the “Menu” button is “SiriRemote2,” and the silver SiriRemote Apple released last year is “SiriRemote3.”
It can be inferred from this that “SiriRemote4” is likely to be the new remote control for Apple TV. Of course, no further details about “SiriRemote4” are mentioned in the iOS code, so there’s no word on the potential design or function of the remote.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said last month that the new Apple TV will be launched in the second half of 2022, and the cost structure has improved, which means it may be cheaper than the existing Apple TV 4K, which is currently selling for $179 in the US.
The latest tvOS 16 update for Apple TV is currently in beta and is expected to be released around September.
