Google News is getting new features

Google has given Google News a new look for the desktop. The focus is primarily on access to local news. Local news, access to a variety of sources and the fight against misinformation, that’s how you could describe the core areas of the “new” Google News.

The new look for Google News on the desktop was inspired by reader feedback, according to Google. Top Stories, Local News and Personalized Picks are now placed at the top of the page. Users can also now use the filter button to add multiple locations to their local news area.

You can also customize the displayed topics now. With this new feature, users can scroll and click through to the stories that interest them most. You can add, remove or rearrange topics. You can do this with the blue “Customize” button in the top right of the “Your themes” section.

On top of that, the Fact Check section of Google News on the desktop has been expanded to provide more context. In addition to the headlines, users now see the original claim along with the assessment of the facts verified by “independent” organizations.

Google News is available in over 125 countries and 40 languages. Google’s algorithms use machine learning to analyze hundreds of different factors to identify and organize the stories that are reported around the world.
