Microsoft Office apps get SketchUp document support in latest preview update

Microsoft has released a new preview update for testing in the Office Insider program. Version 2206 with build number 15330.20114 is now available in the Current Channel (Preview) of Windows, with one notable change being that it supports SketchUp files commonly found in architecture, industrial design, product design, and mechanical engineering.

Users can now insert .skp files in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. To add an skp object, click Insert > 3D Model > This Device and select the desired file. After that, Office can pan, zoom and rotate the object to fit the document perfectly. Users can learn more about SketchUp support in Office in a blog post on the official Office Insider website.

Here are other changes in the latest Office Preview update:

Excel:

New Power BI dataflow connector

Dataflow is a self-service, cloud-based data preparation technology that enables users to ingest, transform, and load data. With the new From Dataflows connector, users can now connect and import data to Excel directly from dataflows. Ability to load data into Excel immediately, or use Power Query to transform data before loading into the application. To use this feature, click Get Data on the Data tab, then select From Power Platform > From Data Flow.

The automatic filtering feature is now significantly faster! These improvements are achieved by reducing memory usage and optimizing the filter’s comparison algorithm. These optimizations are especially noticeable on low-end devices that have less memory or slower CPU-to-memory throughput.

Outlook:

Search more of your emails

Restrictions on email search have been lifted! Outlook searches powered by Microsoft’s search technology are no longer limited to 1,000 results as they used to be. Now, when you scroll through your search results, you get an infinite scroll of email messages.

Users can sign up for the Office Insider Program by opening any Office application and clicking File > Account > Office Insider, please do not use beta builds in production environments.
