According to the insider The Snitch, Overwatch 2 could be launched as a free-to-play game, therefore with free access with microtransactions. The insider did not write it explicitly, but he made it clear without too much possibility of error with a message on Twitter.
As you can read, The Snitch has taken up one of the typical Overwatch mottos, but has declined it in favor of rumors:
We are hope.
We are honour.
We are courage.
We are justice.
We are compassion.
We are determination.
We are harmony.
We are free to play.— The Snitch (@insider_wtf) June 11, 2022
- We are hope.
- We are honour.
- We are courage.
- We are justice.
- We are compassion.
- We are determination.
- We are harmony.
- We are free to play.
In the original, instead of “We are free-to-play” it is said “We are Overwatch”.
Consider that the multiplayer part of Overwatch 2 is already free-to-play for Overwatch owners. That Blizzard has decided to eliminate the payment for access to the game, to guarantee it a larger user base right away?
There is nothing official, so take everything with due caution, but it wouldn’t be too strange if it happened, since companies now earn more from microtransactions than from selling the games themselves.
